Hannah Hollatz - Task 1

Looking through Thomas Struth’s work I found that the landscapes and architectural photos inspired me the most. I noticed that in his work he doesn’t have much contrast in his photos which is something that I’ve never really tried. I’m hoping to reshoot this assignment because I’m not exactly thrilled with the results. I also really liked his museum photos and I’m planning on taking photos of people looking at things in the grocery store.

  1. I really like your decision to make this photo black and white. It helps emphasize the look of symmetry. I also like the the trees, they form great leading lines down the road.

  2. Hey Hannah,

When I first look at this image I automatically think of the photographs Struth took in New York City in the mid-late 70s. Take a peak: http://thomasstruth32.com/smallsize/photographs/streets_of_new_york_city/index.html

I don't think it is so much of a contrast thing for him as it is to have near to pure whites and blacks in areas of his images. This is a great shot, but it does seem a wee bit flat to me. The composition is so true to the way that Struth photographs and is a great shot! Bump the brightness a bit, and give it a little less of the mid-tones to give it a little bit more depth.

    Good work!
