These photos are inspired by Amy's stranded series. In her stranded series, Amy's subjects seem tense and vulnerable as she mentions in one of her interviews. I basically tried to show these emotions but in a different way. I was trying to show a sense of helplessness in my photos. I have uploaded three photos from the set. Any thoughts? Which edit looks better?

I personally think the middle shot looks best! It doesn't look staged like the others and the lighting really does look like a car is pulling up to her. the suitcase is also another element that I think does the photo justice. Very interesting

Hi Amir
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about the photographs you think gives them a sense of helplessness? Just that a female is hitchhiking? I think the first photograph is quite problematic....why is she half dressed, looking to hitchhike with no sense of concern or terror on her face? It does not feel vulnerable but rather the beginning of a porno. It may be best to re-think your intent with these images and consider that just using a woman doesn't necessarily make them have an air of helplessness and vulnerability.

Hello Robyn
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment.
I was trying to show a sense of helplessness through her facial expression which didn't go too well. She couldn't really fake that sense of terror in her face. I really wasn't trying to show vulnerability through the use of a woman as my model but i was aiming to show a sense of abandonment through her gesture and facial expression. Do you think i should reshoot this with a different concept? I personally agree with you. The first image seems irrelevant. The last image is the one i was thinking of handing in. But i don't mind shooting this task again. Actually to be honest i had a really hard time with this task and coming up with a theme. I think it would be a good challenge for me to maybe think of something different.
